HON. SANUSI OLAYIWOLA LAWAL
(ACTION CONGRESS ASPIRANT/CANDIDATE
FOR IFELODUN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA.)
PREAMBLE - As election into the thirty local government areas
and Modakeke Area office of Osun State being speculated to come up b/4 the end of 2007, it has become incumbent on the various
political parties in Nigeria to gird loins and put into motion the process that would produce flag bearers of the parties’
in the coming election. The chairmen/councilors would consequently replace the current caretaker arrangement in the state.
WHERE IS IFELODUN LOCAL GOVERMENT AREA?
Ifelodun Local Govt. Area is made up of towns like Ikirun, Iba, Eko Ende, Eko Ajala, Obaagun, Dagbolu, Seke, Fidibomi,
Oluode and several adjoining villages. Ikirun is trhe headquarters of the local
government area. The L.G. area is made up of 12 wards. The local govt. area is largely agrarian in nature. The local govt.
area is widely known for large scale production of Kolanut ,Palm oil,Cocoa,Root crops and Fruits. It is about 10 minutes drive
from the state capital -Osogbo to the headquarters of the local government area. The Ifelodun local government area is surrounded
by Olorunda, Odo Otin and Boripe local governments. It
is a cosmopolitan settlement of about 400,000 inhabitants.
EXTENT OF CONSULTATION - As a politician of immense political sagacity, Hon. Sanusi Olayiwola
Lawal has well-established contacts which predates his aspiration and which is kept alive by his numerous supporters and countless
well wishers. Being a grass root politician, Lawii (as he's fondly called) is
at home with all and sundry and has a stupendous popular appeal amongst the ordinary folks in the local government area. From this pedestal, it could as well be considered that Lawii's chairmanship aspiration
is a 'fait accompli'. That Lawii has made extensive consultation is an understatement.
He has met individuals and groups across all divides and has not stopped in this onerous assignment. The support and
positive prompt receives from Action Congress party leaders like Pa G.O. Lawal,
Pa B.F. Bello, Hon.Dosu Oladipo and Hon. Hassan Olawuwo among others is tremendous. Not to mention that the encouragement
and support he's been receiving from ordinary party members within Ifelodun L.G. area and beyond is legendary. He shall
remain eternally grateful to them for this.
ACCEPTANCE OF SANUSI LAWAL'S CANDIDACY.
That Lawii's candidature is roundly hailed and accepted is being aptly
demonstrated inter alia in the goodwill he and his entourage has witnessed in the various wards so far visited in his ward
by ward campaign which has taken the campaign train to wards 2,4,5,6,8,9,10,11 & 12 while arrangement are in top gear
to hit the remaining three (3) wards in a couple of days time. While the second phase of the campaign has been slated
to take off thereafter.
WHO IS SANUSI OLAYIWOLA LAWAL
Family Background- He was born into Oluawo Onisegun Compound of Oke-Iroko, Ikirun
in 1960. His parents are Mr & Mrs. Sanusi. The father was a farmer while the mother is a trader. He is the second in a family of six.
Sanusi Olayiwola Lawal is a politician who has an irreducible conviction in the best ethos
of the progressive school of thought. His aspiration is seen by him as a means to meet the needs of well-meaning indigenes
of Ifelodun L.G. area. Little wonder his common axiom that if he will get to government only to squander the goodwill, bring
curse to his family or enrich himself to the neglect of the development of the local government area, God should deal with
him appropriately. Perhaps his philosophy of life is a product of his humble beginning and this has helped him in no small
ways in reaching out beyond all expectations to elders, men, women and youths in the local government area and to the complete
chagrin of other contestants.
Sanusi Lawal is a deeply religious man, a loyal party man, a hardworking fellow and
unassuming gentleman per excellence.
His hobby include meeting and making friends, reading and playing table
tennis.
He is married and blessed with children.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
He attended and completed his primary education at United Brothers School, Inalende, Ibadan in 1972.
He also attended African Secondary Grammar School (Idi Olo), Ikirun. He graduated in 1982.
Afterwards, Lawal attended the Government Technical College, Osogbo between 1983 and 1986.
He later study electrical/electronics engineering at Osun state College of Technology, Esa-Oke between
2001 and 2004.
WORKING EXPERIENCE
He worked between 1989 and 1996 following his graduation from the Technical College and resigned
as the superintendent Electrician at the water corporation in the old Oyo State and later in Osun
Sate.
Since then he has been in private practice; helping members of his immediate community and beyond
while plying his vocation. He is also a household name in matters relating to provision of electricity to small-scale industries,
residential quarters and execution of allied contracts
POLITICAL EXPERIENCE- The rise of Sanusi Lawal in the political firmament of Ifelodun Local government area was not
attained through sudden flight. It is noteworthy that Lawii being a complete community man coupled with his natural tendency
to mix freely with the ordinary folks, not to mention the aura of love for him by men and women must have combined in effect
to fire his zeal to always be on the side of the people. With his rising profile, not to mention his deep involvement in organising
youth and later providing a veritable link between youths and party leaders in his immediate constituency (ward1 Oke-Iroko),
his philanthropic disposition added to his community development efforts earned him the ticket to contest for the councillorship
seat of his ward on the platform of C.N.C (one of the five leprous fingers i.e. parties, using the expression of late Uncle
Bola Ige, during the Sani Abacha era) in 1997. He won the seat in the most convincing
manner in spite of the strangulating influence of the U.N.C.P. stalwarts in the local government area.
His contributions to his ward during the brief period remains monumental till today and this has become
the guiding milestone for anyone wanting to become the councilor of that ward till today .
Lawii has since then being taken part in every political dispensation as a mobilizer, party
executive member, rallying point for candidate and peacemaker. At a point,
he signified his intention to contest the chairmanship position but had to bow to party leaders advise urging him to wait
a bit. Thank goodness, it is the dawn of the Lord's promise.
As a foundation member of Action Congress, a politician that has gone through the crucibles,
political pundits are unanimous in their conviction that if Lawal is given the opportunity, he will take the local government
area to greater heights.
WHY LAWII IS CONTESTING FOR THE CHAIRMANSHIP SEAT OF IFELODUN L.G.
By the grace of God and the support of the well-meaning electorates of Ifelodun local
government area, the chairman-in-council shall be guided by an 8-point agenda in transforming the local government area. The
areas to be given serious attention are:
1. Rehabilitation and construction of roads within the local government area.
2. Provision of potable water.
3. Economic empowerment of men, women and youths through e.g. Agriculture.
4. Enhancement of electricity supply to the local govt. area
5. Maintenance and provision of primary health care.
6. Promotion of sports across Ifelodun L.G. area.
7. Provision of education enhancing materials at the local government level.
8. Payment of worker salary and other entitlements as at when due.
